Our Hubs

Where it all happens

At Food Works, our four hubs are at the heart of everything we do. Our warehouse in Handsworth is where we collect, store, and share surplus food in our market – turning potential waste into valuable resources for the community.

This is where our work begins.

From there, our two cafes bring it all to life – transforming rescued and locally grown ingredients into affordable, nutritious meals that reach people across Sheffield. We also grow our own fresh produce at Norton Nurseries, adding even more locally grown food to the meals and markets that nourish our city.

Together, these hubs are how we connect food, people, and purpose.

Food Works Handsworth

Here you can visit the market, collect patron boxes and buy Just Meals.

Both the market stock and Just Meals are available on a pay what you can afford basis with a minimum contribution of £1.00 each

Because our supply varies daily, the contents of the shelves do too.

Food Works Norton

The former council nursery in Graves Park is being repurposed as a hub to support local, nature friendly food growing in the city. Growing more of our food locally is the single most important thing we can do to improve our food system. By reducing the need for transportation, storage and artificial ways to preserve food over time, we can dramatically lower the impact our food production has on the environment.

By growing food right on our doorstep, and not relying on global supply chains, we know this food will be available to us when we need it. By growing our food collaboratively with volunteers we can also ensure it is accessible for all.

Opening Times

The nursery is currently not open regularly to the public. We do run volunteering sessions every other Sunday morning, and every Tuesday and Thursday morning.

Getting there

Public transport or car:

  • The main entrance is just off Norton Lane. Whilst driving on site please stick to speed limit of 5mph.

  • If arriving by car, please be aware that Food Works car parking is at the bottom of the site, next to the wood chip piles. Please drive on through the site towards the bottom gate, and follow the one way system round the outhouse building into our designated car parking area. We should have this all clearly sign posted on site shortly!

  • If relying on public transport, the bus number 1, 18, 20, 24, 25, 75 and 75a all run up either Norton Lane, or Chesterfield road on the other side of Graves Park. You can access the bus timetables here. Please check online for regular updates on bus travel.
