On Friday 11th July, we were delighted to welcome the team from Wayv to Norton Nurseries for a corporate volunteering day to support our project of bringing the nurseries back into full use. The Wayv team split into two groups for morning and afternoon sessions, and they certainly rolled up their sleeves! Their efforts went into:
- Clearing outdoor growing space (with a surprise discovery of an old network of pipes!)
- Re-potting seedlings and planting seeds
- Watering and tidying a wide range of plants and pots

All of this took place on the hottest day of the year so far which added an extra layer of challenge, but also lots of achievement.
Their contribution supports not just our growing spaces, but our wider work across Sheffield, including community projects in 96 schools and our pay what you can afford cafes and ready meals.

Katherine Otter, Marketing Manager at Wayv shared:
“We wanted to work with a local organisation for our team volunteering, and when we looked into Food Works’ initiatives across the city, we were keen to help the community-led and community-focused organisation.
Norton Nurseries is an impressive space that requires many hands to run – the team were more than happy to get stuck in, and we were all impressed with the extent of activities supported by Food Works across the city!”
At the end of their sessions, the Wayv team took time to reflect on the experience. Not only volunteering their time but teambuilding and connecting with nature. They each wrote down a reflection/comment, which you can see pictured.

Big thank you to the Wayv team for all their hard work!
