We’ve had a summer-long series of celebrations across our hubs this year, in honour of Food Works turning 10 years old! In addition to the bistro and meal celebrations at our Sharrow and Zest cafes, we held a BBQ at our Handsworth warehouse. Using pallets as tables, and upside-down stacks of crates as seating, it was certainly a warehouse BBQ.

We were lucky enough to have caught good weather and sunshine into the evening, and the company was even better. Sometimes it feels difficult to make a warehouse into a warm, welcoming place, but on an evening like that where we were accompanied by so many lovely people (including Wendy’s dog, Romeo) who take time out of their lives to volunteer every week – it wasn’t challenging at all.

Chef Satya kindly prepared some delicious salads to go along with our burgers and buns, everything being surplus of course. It felt like a full circle moment: to have our drivers who collect the food, warehouse team who process the food, cafe team who prepare the food, sitting together to enjoy a communal meal that they have all contributed towards.

If you’re feeling you missed out, don’t fret. We are hosting another social at the warehouse on Thursday September 4th, from 16:00 -18:00. Artist and illustrator Jane Smith will be demonstrating linocut printmaking! Reserve yourself a free ticket here to get involved in funky print making. As usual we will be providing snacks, drinks and good vibes. Hope to see you there!
