Today Junior Doctors at Sheffield Children’s Hospital received freshly prepared frozen meals and fruit from Food Works Sheffield. Many of the junior doctors will be working anti-social shifts away from their families over the festive period and this will ensure they have access to nutritious meals at a busy time of year.

Noreen West, deputy medical director at Sheffield Children’s said “We are really excited to be able to develop community partnerships with innovative organisations like Food Works, particularly when it helps us look after the wellbeing of our doctors over the Christmas period. As an organisation we are striving to be one of the greenest healthcare trusts in the country, and supplying nutritious, sustainable food to staff and families is key to that ambition, and is part of what makes Sheffield Children’s such a brilliant place to work.”

Sheffield Children’s are using this as a trial with the aim to develop a  partnership with Food Works.  Sheffield Children’s hopes to offer something similar to colleagues across the Trust in 2022.

Food Works is a social enterprise making food fair and sustainable for everyone in Sheffield, it recovers over 500 tonnes of food a year from going to landfill which is enough food to make over a million meals! Not only that, Food Works grows food locally and works with farms and allotment groups to provide fresh, sustainable food to all.
