Summer is here – and so are the tomatoes!
It’s August already! And while the rain and grey skies might still linger (typical of end-of-term!), we know it’s really summer when our tomatoes begin to ripen.
This year, we’re growing more tomatoes than ever before, with more variety too. From the tiny, sunshine-yellow Barry’s Crazy Cherry to the strikingly large, purple-striped Talga Beef. Our glasshouse is bursting with beautiful, flavorful diversity.
Grown with your help
The best part? Many of the varieties we’re growing have been donated by our incredible volunteers. Since our first seed-saving workshop last year – and with a boost of inspiration from Tomato Fest – some of you successfully saved seeds from last season’s crops and have now brought those varieties back to life in our nursery.
Thanks to your efforts, we’re growing an abundant, diverse collection of tomatoes that reflects the power of community collaboration and sustainable gardening.
Want to taste them for yourself? Sign up to our Patron Box and enjoy a hand-picked selection of these delicious summer jewels.

Why seed saving matters
The food revolution begins with a seed. As we work towards building a resilient, local food system, seed saving becomes more than just a gardening skill. It’s a critical tool. By preserving and sharing seeds, especially from plants that thrive in our changing climate, we’re helping to secure the future of our food.
Want to get involved?
Look out for our upcoming tomato seed saving workshop later this year. We’ll be posting on our socials and newsletter, so keep your eyes peeled!

CALL OUT FOR PLASTIC PUNNETS!
Are you fed up with not being able to recycle your plastic punnets? We can put them to use! Food Works are now accepting donations of plastic punnets of all shapes and sizes.
Whether they held your grapes, your strawberries, or even your mushrooms, please hold onto them for us so we can reuse them to package our crops!
Please ensure these are washed out and clean before you drop them to any one of our hubs.
