After six months of operations, the Food Works cafe at Longley Four Greens Community Centre will be concluding its pilot phase at the end of December. It has been brilliant to connect with the volunteers and community members who crossed our path in this time, some of whom you can see in the images below.
Running the cafe has shown us there is a need for better food provision in the community, and also that the type of cafe that Food Works operates isn’t the right fit in this case.
Our last cafe service will be on Thursday 19th December, before we close for the Christmas break.
We are incredibly grateful for the support the cafe received throughout this project, especially from the small but mighty team of staff and volunteers, and also from the community and the community centre staff. Whether you visited us for a meal, attended an event, or spread the word, you helped make the cafe pilot a welcoming and impactful space. Thank you for being part of this journey with us!
As we transition, we’re working closely with the team at Longley Four Greens to ensure a smooth handover. We are also exploring opportunities for the site to become a partner hub and host a pop-up market in the near future. We’d love anyone involved to continue as part of the team at another Food Works location or with Longley Four Greens directly as they consider their own next steps. The Longley team would like people who have volunteered at the cafe to be part of the conversation about what should come next and will be arranging a meeting early in the New Year with this in mind.
Thank you again to everyone who has supported this part of the Food Works story so far. We’re so proud of what we’ve achieved together and look forward to exploring new ways to support the Longley area in the future.
