Food Works, a social enterprise building fair and sustainable food for Sheffield, has teamed up with South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA) to provide festive meals for 150 customers.
Every year SYHA ensures their customers have food, gifts and a friendly chat at Christmas. For the first time, Food Works are providing a meal so everyone can enjoy a hot dinner over the holidays.
Kathryn Higgins, Service Manager at Livewell SYHA said “I am so pleased to be working with Food Works over the holiday period. This is the fifth year of our appeal, and the need this year is greater than ever. This partnership means we can reach even more people who are isolated and in need of food, gifts and connection over Christmas. It’s much more than this, it’s showing someone that we care about them and are thinking of them. Thank you to all the donators, volunteers and Food Works for making it possible.
Our LiveWell teams (South Yorkshire Housing Association’s support and wellbeing services) let me know which customers will benefit from a meal (hot or frozen), a gift and a visit or phone call from a volunteer over the holiday. This year the Food Works meals will benefit our people that access our homeless services, mental health support services, and older and isolated people. It’s fab that we can reach out to so many different services – the total so far is around 150 meals.”
Jo Hercberg, Director at Food Works said “We’re delighted to partner with SYHA for this important Christmas campaign. Everything feels better when you know someone is thinking of you. For our meals to reach many people at this time of year is brilliant especially when a lot of services close down.
The meals provided are made from 100% surplus and locally grown ingredients by our chefs and volunteers. Not only do they help prevent good food from going to waste, they’re served in biodegradable containers so it’s a win for the environment as well as the community.”
