At Food Works, we are firm believers that it takes a village (or a city!) to build a sustainable and fair food system. Today, we want to give a massive shout-out to Dave Musgrove from Porter Pizza, whose ongoing generosity is quite literally brightening up our warehouse.
Going the extra mile
Dave and the team at Porter Pizza have been long-term champions of our mission, and make a donation every single month to Food Works. This consistent support is the backbone of what we do – from funding school holiday meals to supporting our food-growing projects.
But recently, Dave decided to go a step further.
The boring stuff matters too
Our warehouse lighting needed an upgrade. We needed lights and an electrician to fit them. We found the new lights and Dave didn’t hesitate; he offered to cover the cost of the professional labour to get them installed.
While warehouse lighting might not sound as glamorous as some of our other projects, it is essential. These lights ensure our team can work safely and efficiently to process food and get it to the people who need it most.
Teamwork in action
This week, our very own volunteer Brian is working alongside Dave’s electrician, Andy Hall, to get the job done. It has been a true community effort to get this over the line:
- The light units were donated from The Depot following their lighting refit. Big thank you to them too!
- Volunteer Brian spotted the redundant lighting units at The Depot and suggested they could be salvaged – it’s not only food we don’t like going to waste! Into the Food Works van went 24 redundant units. Along with securing the lights, Brian gave up his time to coordinate the project and oversee the install.
- Dave from Porter Pizza generously covered the costs of the professional labour.
- Jamie and Harpreet from the warehouse team worked behind the scenes to manage the equipment and logistics to ensure the installation went smoothly – whilst juggling all the other warehouse tasks!
Could your business help?
We know that for many local business owners, time is the most precious commodity. Support doesn’t always have to be a big corporate away day. Sometimes, it’s about helping us with the boring stuff – the infrastructure and the overheads – that keeps our doors open and our mission moving forward. Whether it’s a monthly donation like Porter Pizza’s or funding a specific piece of equipment, your support keeps Sheffield fed.
