The weather may have been against us but it didn’t stop us from having a wonderful time at Nether Edge Farmers Market last week.
We were very grateful to have been chosen alongside Heeley City Farm as one of the beneficiaries of the market this year and were given the opportunity to have a stall to help spread the word about what Food Works is all about. Nether Edge is one of the best run markets in Sheffield and their amazing team of volunteers were on hand all day helping us put the gazebo up and checking we were ok.
An amazing team of our volunteers braved the freezing cold and constant rain to help us talk to members of the public about what we do. It was great to have people from the farm, warehouse, cafe and admin teams all represented on the day to share their stories and experiences. We also promoted our patron box scheme, and sold our festive hampers and newly printed Food Works cook books.
The market was still very busy despite the weather and we enjoyed sharing our mission with people who hadn’t heard of us before. We saw lots of familiar faces, customers and fellow volunteers throughout the day and hopefully encouraged some new people to sign up too. We were even very lucky to get a visit from Food Works’ founder Jo Hercberg!
One unexpected bonus was having a chat with market organiser and founder of Sheffield Organic Growers Huw Evans who kindly offered us 60kg of surplus butternut squash and apples from his farm which we collected the next day. We never stop food sourcing!
