As we celebrate 10 years of Food Works, we’re marking the occasion with something close to our hearts – the journey of bringing Norton Nurseries back to life.
Our volunteer Jake has compiled some video he has taken over the past 9 months to a short clip – just 90 seconds long – to show 9 months of transformation. It captures people coming together to turn a forgotten space into something beautiful, alive, and nourishing.
Norton Nurseries had been sitting quiet for years, their greenhouses slowly giving way to time. But with a vision in mind and a deep belief in what the community can achieve, we began to clear, clean, plant, build, and grow.
Staff, volunteers, and friends – you’ve all played a part in this. Through rain, mud, cold mornings and long days, you’ve helped turn this space into a thriving hub for edible flowers, herbs, fruit and vegetables. Sometimes with limited tools and materials, but never short on spirit.
This nursery now grows food with purpose. It’s a place of learning, sharing, and regeneration – for people as much as for plants. To everyone who dug a bed, fixed a frame, watered seedlings, or simply cheered us on – thank you! You’ve helped lay the foundations for something that will keep giving back for years to come.
Here’s to 10 years of Food Works – and to the many seasons ahead.
