This year from Norton Nursery, we’ve been able to support over 80 schools to grow more food! This work is underpinned by the Local Food Action Plan in which we seek to support food education and make more local food accessible across the city. We are helping to make school gardens successful by providing them with hardy seedlings ready to go straight in the ground.
We’ve received some wonderful feedback and an inspiring update from one of the schools taking part in our Growing Smart programme. It’s so lovely to hear (and see!) how well Meadowhead School is doing with their food growing efforts.
You can really tell that a lot of care, time, and enthusiasm has gone into this project – and that’s no easy task in a busy school environment!

“I wanted to finish the year on a high by showing you some of the fantastic produce and plants that our ECO Group have been growing over the last few weeks.
With the fantastic support from Food Works Sheffield who have provided the seeds and saplings, our home grown garden has been flourishing.
A huge thanks to the green fingers of Mr Lovatt & Frances Barnes, these plants and vegetables are looking super.
A big thank you to The Food Works and a happy summer to you all.
These products will be shared with our community parents at our Community Shop in August”
– Kevin Elliott, School Business Manager
A huge well done to everyone involved in the project at Meadowhead School and 6th Form. It’s inspiring to see the difference being made through teamwork, sustainability, and a passion for growing.
