Things are changing fast at the nursery. With temperatures already reaching 40 degrees (!) the plants are thriving and seem to be getting bigger each time we blink! Flowers are blooming and bugs and birds are returning!
We’ve had some bumper harvests of tasty and nutritious crops, including Rainbow chard (pictured below), kales and brassica leaves, pea shoots, bean shoots, purple sprouting broccoli, mountains of salad and chicory!
As well as providing all these goodies for the markets and patron boxes, we’ve also started selling our beautiful seedlings at our hubs. You may see plants for sale at the Sharrow and Zest cafes. Give them a go growing them at home, and let us know how you get on! We’ve got an exciting variety of tomatoes, kales, flowers, cabbages, and plenty more to come!
Our volunteers have been working super hard potting on hundreds of plants, ready to go to schools, community gardens, in the ground here at Norton, or in your garden!
Get in touch if you’d like to know more about our Growing Kits that we have for sale.
We’ve also started promoting our ‘Grow a Row’ scheme! Over the years, allotmenteers, gardeners, allotment societies and farms have been donating their surplus veggies or ‘gluts’ to Food Works, to turn into our delicious cafe lunches and Just Meals.
If you’ve got some seasonal surplus, keep us in mind! Or if you would like to dedicate an area of your allotment or garden to growing food for Food Works, get in touch, we’d love to hear from you!
