Why Join?
Everyone in the city should have an opportunity to grow food and access fresh delicious nature friendly food. By participating in our Community Food Growing Programme, your community will help build a better food system and allow everyone in our city to enjoy local nature friendly food.
The past couple of years of working with communities to trial this scheme has taught us how much food growing matters – as a way to get your hands dirty, an educational tool, a boost for wellbeing, and a way of working towards climate resilience. But we also know that getting your garden started can feel daunting: what to plant, when, and how? That’s where we want to help. Operating out of the old council glasshouses means that we can take care of the tricky part so you can dig right into the fun of growing, harvesting, and the eating of your own grown food.
How does it work?
Our Community Food Growing Programme starts at only £250 per year and includes:
- Two deliveries of seedlings: We will deliver 2 batches of seasonal seedlings tailored to your needs. All plants are grown in a nature friendly way right here in Sheffield and include food plants as well as companion plants to keep you supplied with a bountiful harvest for up to 8m2 of garden space.
- Two half-days of support from our team: One of our food growing experts will deliver your plants in person and spend 2 half days with your group to support your activities, whether that’s clearing a growing space, running a session with your group, offering tailored advice, or even delivering teacher training.
- Comprehensive grow guides: You’ll receive all of our best tips and tricks for plant care in pdf format, guides you can return to, print off and share!
- A safety net: Caterpillars got you down, someone accidentally weeded out all your broad beans? Not to worry, we’ve got you covered, so that anytime something does go wrong, you can come back to the nursery and pick up a replacement.

Extras
We are always happy to discuss a more tailored support for your activities, including:
- Extra staff support to run sessions, or provide advice (such as designing a planting scheme for your garden)
- Larger deliveries for a bigger space, or a third plant delivery to increase the productivity of your space
- Access to specialist workshops and training
