How did you first hear about Food Works?

My husband John saw the Real Junk Food Project open in Leeds on TV, and then found out about Food Works in Sheffield via Facebook. I can remember when the warehouse moved out of town, which sadly we weren’t able to get too as not driving.

We loved the idea and when Citrus cafe opened at Zest we were semi regulars. We met Rene and believed in the vision but weren’t able to collaborate due to COVID timing . We became subscribers of the Just meals in mid 2022 until the scheme closed, then we became patron box users in 2025.

What do you enjoy most about Food Works?

Reducing waste, the fact that it can help people who don’t  have access to good food. We try to add a bit more each time in order to cover costs.

What is your opinion of our frozen meals (Just Meals) in terms of taste, quality, and variety?

They are so convenient. I defrost one in the evening and take it to work the next day. They are nutritious – and like the veggie and vegan ones best! Having Just Meals keeps me away from unhealthy options at work

What made you decide to subscribe for a Patron Box?

The pick up location.  We collect twice a month as we also have another box service, and the subscribe/pause idea is very useful when not around to ensure there is no food waste.

What do you like most about the Patron Box each week?

The fact that we could swap things out with what’s on the shelf at Citrus Cafe so other clients can take home what they need so no food waste. We love the fresh veg from the Norton Nursery!

Overall, what do you think about Food Works as a concept and experience?

We love it and will continue supporting it as much as we can.
