This week at Food Works, we welcomed a small group into the kitchen for a relaxed cake decorating session. What started as a simple workshop quickly turned into a fun and creative afternoon.
Getting stuck into the buttercream (yum yum!)
Everyone started with a simple buttercream cake and the chance to try something new. For some, it was their first time using a piping bag, while others were building on skills they already had.
We spent the afternoon experimenting with the following:
- Controlling piping pressure and movement.
- Using different nozzles and textures.
- Moving from basic swirls to custom patterns.
Confidence over perfection
The best part of the day wasn’t just the cake. There was a wonderful sense of community as people shared ideas and helped each other out.
We kept things simple and accessible, focusing on building confidence rather than perfection throughout the session.
As the afternoon progressed, so did the creativity. By the end of the session, every cake looked completely different and was full of individual personality.
Sweet success
Workshops like this are a great way to bring people together, try something new, and enjoy being creative in a supportive space. Everyone left with a beautiful cake and a few new skills.
Thank you to everyone who attended. We can’t wait for the next one!
